MONTCLARE – The toddlers at La Habanera Dance Community show off their amazing talents.

The La Habanera Dance Club Community hosted its Tiny Toddler Spring Festival on 16 October, where the children danced the tango, mambo and hand jive.

The event was held at the Danie van Zyl Recreation Centre, in Montclare.

The dance club, which started as a social dance studio headed by Joey Meyer, celebrated its 21st birthday this year with an enthusiastic group of children who were eager to get onto the floor and show off their skills.

The club’s dance director, Kallie Adams was praised for being such a great mentor to the children.

“It was Kallies vision to have the dance project for children,” said Joey.

In October 2013, the club saw an increase in toddlers who wished to participate. They are now looking to spread out into the nearby areas to facilitate all the little kids who would love to dance.

This also sees the third year of its partnership with Joburg City Sports and Recreation, as they run the festival together.

“It’s important to have the support of Joburg City Sports and Recreation, they gave us the premises for the festival, and assist us a great deal,” said Meyer.

For their participation in the festival, the children received certificates, medals and trophies.

La Habanera prides themselves in seeing toddlers who started when they were three years old grow within the club and sharpen their dance talents all while preparing to go to primary school next year.

The dance club hosts dance lessons every Wednesday and Thursday at 9am – 11am and is open to preschools that would wish join. Parents pay a small fee for the lessons.
