VIDEO: Habib to address Wits students

BRAAMFONTEIN – Wits Vice Chancellor flies in from Durban to address protesting students.

Wits University Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Adam Habib will finally address disgruntled Wits students on 16 October. He reportedly flew in from Durban to speak to students, after students had protested since 14 October about the 10.5 per cent fees increase for next year.

SRC Leaders said they will be talking and the professor must listen to them. Morale of the students remains high as they continue to sing struggle songs. Seemingly over the past  three days a deadlock was reached between the protesting students and the university as Prof Habib was heard on radio talking on the unwavering stance of the university

Students blocked entrances and exits, and disrupted classes and activities, to the point where only the Medical School was functioning properly. Several verbal and physical altercations arose, often involving students attempting to enter or leave the university fighting with protesting students.
