Zuma suspends Riah Phiyega

JOBURG - Howard Dembovksy welcomes Riah Phiyega's suspension.

President Jacob Zuma suspends National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega.

According to the statement released on 14 October by Presidency, the police commissioner was suspended with immediate effect, but with full pay.

“The suspension is to endure pending any decision that is made following upon the recommendations in the board of inquiry into allegations of misconduct, her fitness to hold office and her capacity to execute official duties efficiently,” reads the statement.

Howard Dembovsky National Chairperson of Justice Project South Africa welcomed the decision by Zuma.

“It is re-assuring that President Jacob Zuma has finally dome something about the Phiyega matter, that has been brewing for some time. This means that proper investigation can start, based on the recommendations of the Marikana Commission,” said Dembodsky.
