UPDATE: Numsa protest against corruption

NEWTOWN – Numsa is joined by other political parties and anti-corruption organisations in a national protest against corruption.

Thousands of workers in nine SA provinces walked out on jobs and joined the Numsa national strike on 14 October.

The union was joined by political parties and anti-corruption organisations.

Memorandums were were handed over to various government departments.

Mzwandile Hadebe, director-general of Public Enterprises acknowledged one of the memorandums on behalf of his absent minister.

“We are going to pass the memorandums on to the relevant people,” he said.

Cope leader Mosiua Lekota said not only workers, but all residents of this country, are sick and tired of the looting by corrupt ANC leaders which continues to breed more and more problems.

“Enough is enough,” he said.

The former Cosatu general-secretary Zwelinzima Vavi also joined the workers.

Thousands converged at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown and they marched to Beyers Naudé Square, SARS, SA Reserve Bank and other government departments where national government representatives received their Memorandum of Demands.

Unions said the the country is in the vicious grip of worsening mass unemployment, retrenchments, poverty because of this current government.

They also shouted that the service of Advocate Ngoako Ramatlhodi is no longer needed, they are demanding his removal. Workers demanded that all the corrupt leaders be removed with immediate effect. They also demanded a report by the National Treasury on all Organs of State that do not comply with legislation. The unions further demanded that SARS and Finance Intelligence Centre (FIC) investigate the problem of illicit financial flows and money laundering.
