Suspected corrupt cop is out on bail

SOPHIATOWN – Senior police officer from Sophiatown SAPS is out on bail, after being charged with corruption.

Colonel Mohale Andrew Masia (51) from Sophiatown SAPS was released on R5 000 bail at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 12 October, following his arrest for alleged corruption.

“Mohale allegedly solicited R6 000 bribe money in October last year so that he could make it possible for the suspect to get bail as well as having his case docket destroyed,” explained Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

Col Mohale’s case was postponed to 12 November to allow for further police investigations.

In a separate incident, four suspected drug dealers appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court and the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court after they were arrested in the early hours of 12 October.

According to Mulaudzi the Hawks had obtained information that the quartet was dealing in drugs and an operation which included Crime Intelligence in Gauteng.

“K9 and TRT [tactical response team] was launched to determine their dealings. The suspects unknowingly sold drugs amounting to over R70 000 to undercover cops,” said Mulaudzi.

Dirk van Schalkwyk (63), Kevin Williams (34) and Bullie Cero (33) were all remanded in custody until 19 October 2015 when they will make a formal bid for bail.

The fourth suspect, Wyn Martin’s (29) case was postponed to 13 October.
