BERARIO – Berario Clinic hosted a successful fun day aimed at encouraging residents to use their services as well as educating them on the different types of services they offer.

The Berario Clinic in partnership with JMPD and the Fairland Police Station hosted a fun day to promote the many services that are rendered at the clinic. The fun day was held at the Berario Recreation Centre on 10 October.

The Police Dog Unit as well as the Horse Unit demonstrated to the 150-strong crowd – made up of community members from surrounding areas – how they catch and arrest criminals using the assistance of their trusted dogs and steeds. Clinic staff worked though the day, testing residents for high blood pressure and diabetes, while the police educated the community members. The Muslim Aids Programme (MAP) screened 39 people for HIV and TB.

Keeping up the theme of Cancer Month, [Curves www.curves.com] representatives educated women on how to perform self-breast examinations and taught men how to check for prostrate cancer. Apo Baloyi, a member of the clinic’s committee, said that they were happy with the turnout for the day and that they hoped that attendees shared the information with their neighbours who weren’t present. “We hope that the community was able to learn about the services that we render here at the clinic as well as the different stakeholders that we work with,” Baloyi said.

Amanda Barsby, who attended the event with her family, said that she hoped that the clinic hosted more fun days as it taught them where to go when they encounter different problems.

‘It was really nice seeing the community come together like this and hopefully other clinics also learn to work together with their communittees,” she added.

Sarah Motauna, who came to the fun day with her two grandchildren, said that the day was great and that she felt cared for by the clinic staff.

“I am a patient of the clinic as I have high blood pressure and I am so glad that they took the time to educate us on several issues. I also enjoyed watching the police in action,” she said.
