NORTHCLIFF – Northcliff Corner Checkers is giving away 300 buckets of food and supplies to the less-fortunate members of the Linden Dutch Reformed Church.

Northcliff Corner Shopping Centre Checkers showed they value their community by donating buckets filled with food, toiletries and cleaning products to the Dutch Reformed Church’s less-fortunate members.

Christmas Bucket Project manager Henriette Arendse explained that Checkers has donated a 150 ten-litre buckets filled with toiletries and cleaning products and 150 twenty-litre buckets filled with food items.

“These buckets will be given to less-fortunate church members on 22 November,” said Arendse.

The project initiated by Linden Dutch Reformed Church care-group member, Hester Steynberg said the project has been running since 2007.

Steyenberg said she realised the need in the community and wanted to show members of the church that it is not only a building but an important part of the community.

She said each person who will receive a bucket has been hand-picked and will also receive a Christmas message in an envelope with the bucket.

Checkers manager George Wienand said Checkers is proud to be part of this project and they want the community to know that they are not just a retail company, but also care about them.
