GALLERY: Elm Park hosts Morning Market

NORTHCLIFF – Resident enjoy face painting, stalls, bonsai trees, handcrafted quilts and other exciting things at the Morning Market.

Elm Park Retirement Village hosted its Morning Market on 3 October on their beautiful communal lawns. The Elm Park Morning Market has been taking place for the past 29 years with the involvement of residents of the retirement village and surrounding areas.

Elm Park, in Northcliff, is one of nine retirement villages of the Flower Foundation where elderly citizens over the age of 55 live in secure cottages under the care of the qualified nursing staff.

Heather Withers, who has been a resident of Elm Park for seven years, said that the Morning Market was absolutely fabulous. “A number of guests came from all walks of life to participate in the event. Grandchildren enjoyed activities like face painting and played in the sandpits,” she said.

The variety of stalls included a white elephant stall, Books Galore, bonsai, pots and plants and handcrafted quilts as well as other stalls that were on display on the day. Withers said residents also had the opportunity to win beautifully crafted knitted items with ribbon embroidery through a raffle starting from R5.

The proceeds raised through the market go toward different causes every year such as the Flower Foundation Benevolent Fund which sponsors elderly residents who fall on hard times. “This year the proceeds of the money raised during the Elm Park Morning Market will go toward refurbishing our main resident’s lounge that have been there for 29 years,” said Withers.

Withers thanked all who participated and helped with the preparation to make the Elm Park Morning Market a great success.
