GALLERY: Optometrist is passionate about giving back

NORTHCLIFF – Optometrist Sam Schneider is passionate about providing eye care for the less fortunate at his practice.

Your eyesight plays a vital role in your daily life and it is important to take care of your vision. Optometrist Sam Schneider established his practice in Northcliff 33 years ago by providing professional eye care for families in the area and around Johannesburg.

Schneider is passionate about giving back to the less fortunate in relation to providing eye care solutions. He decided to provide the less fortunate the opportunity to receive eye tests, spectacle frames and evaluating their visual conditions at an affordable price.

“I plan to launch an initiative that allows the less fortunate eye care solutions and services once a week from 13 October, 8.30am to 1pm. There are many people who cannot afford this service in the kind of economy we exist in. Everyone who has limited resources is welcome – they will be given a discount on the day,” he said.

CR frames, lenses and eye tests will start from R600. Bifocals which are spectacles that allow you to see near and far for people over the age of 40 years are from R980.

Through out the year Schneider has identified those who are in need of eye care services and has made the means of providing them with free spectacles. “It is very heart warming to witness the reaction from patients when they receive eye tests and spectacles for the first time,” he said.

Sam Schneider serves people from all age groups, ensuring each person looks their best when they leave the practice. Schneider says that everyone should get an eye test every one year to 18 months.

“Children should have their eyes examined often starting from preschool. By doing this, children can ensure an early diagnoses of eye conditions and diseases,” he said.

Wearing sunglasses outside in order to prevent over exposure of UV light is a tip Schneider also recommends to take care of your eye sight.
