NORTHCLIFF – Elderly couple celebrate 70 years of blissful marriage.

A loving couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at their daughter’s Northcliff home on 3 October.

Paul (94) and Joan Kruger (91) who now stay at the Village of Golden Harvest no. 1, Bromhof, were surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The elderly couple got married in October 1945.

Their endless love and healthy relationship inspired their large family of four children, Zandree, Lin, Joni and Sheila, including their six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The couple’s children describe them as fabulous. They want everyone to know about their parents’ incredible 70-year-old marriage so it can inspire other couples out there.

Sitting side-by-side, the Krugers held each other’s hand and gave a smile while holding a replica of their wedding flowers.

One of their daughters, Zandree Lill said they had the replica made as a reminder. Lill said, “We love them, they are an inspiration.”

Paul was a Beaufighter pilot during the Second World War.

His daughter Lill said he was shot down at Benova Jeruga in Yugoslavia.

She said he was reported missing during the war.

“At that time, he was engaged to our mother Joan and that was before we were all born,” said Lill.

She said her father became a prisoner of war for three months in Yugoslavia before coming back home to South Africa.

After Kruger came back home to SA, the couple bought a farm in Limpopo and ventured into farming.

In 2002 they retired and relocated to Gauteng.
