GALLERY: Main streets in Melville cleaned up

MELVILLE – Volunteers, community members and local businesses team up to clean up Melville.

The main streets in Melville received some much needed TLC on 26 September with residents, businesses and volunteers joining forces to give the area a spring clean.

The clean-up was a collaboration between the Melville Security Initiative (MSI), Melville Business Forum (MBF) and their members, Melville Residents’ Association (MRA) as well as the GEM Project. Pikitup also provided a recycling truck for residents to dispose of all their recyclable rubbish and Huddle Up collected clothing and toys to distribute to different charities.

MBF chairman Clyde Terry said, “A huge thank you to all the businesses who contributed to the clean-up, without them we would not have had the funds to do this project. A big shout also goes to GEM projects for making it a fun event.”

Besides cleaning up litter, volunteers painted the concrete dustbins, scraped off illegal posters, removed the graffiti on road signs and swept the streets on 7th Street and 4th Avenue. After all the hard work volunteers and community members were invited for an after party at 27Boxes.
