Scouts will help at Spruit Day clean-up

BRYANSTON – Spruit Day initiative is driven by local resident associations with support of various Spruit interest groups and partners.

Scouts and Cub groups have dedicated their support to this year’s Spruit Day clean-up initiative  on 19 September.

Spruit Day organiser Ian Tumiel explained that Scout groups including 1st Bryanston, 1st Rivertrail, 1st Morningside, 1st Lonehill and 1st Craighall have confirmed that they will be helping.

“These Scout groups will each join one of the community clean-up locations that is close to their base camp. They will participate in planting trees and installing dustbins,” explained Tumiel.

He added that in Bryanston East the Scouts would do water testing on the river together with Green Beings.

They would also be selling boerewors rolls for the volunteers taking part.

The Spruit Day 2015 initiative is driven by the local resident associations, various Spruit interest groups and Spruit partners including City of Joburg, Pikitup and ADT Security.

It includes 20 different resident associations from Emmarentia right through to Kyalami and the Jukskei.

“We are delighted to have the added support of so many of our young people.

Appreciation and awareness of environmental issues are so important and we sincerely thank them in advance for their enthusiasm and concern,” concluded Tumiel.
