No stopping Flyafrica
LANSERIA – Flyafrica, flying one of its Boeing B737-500 aircraft, made its debut flight from Lanseria International Airport to Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek, Namibia, when it launched its three times weekly service between the two countries.
The inaugural flight of Africa’s low-fare airline, Namibia Flyafrica, from Lanseria International Airport to Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek, Namibia took place on 14 September.
The flight was almost grounded due to a High Court injunction, brought by Air Namibia, which required Flyafrica to move its operations from OR Tambo International Airport to Lanseria International Airport.
“The Lanseria International Airport management team was very accommodating, and assisted Namibia Flyafrica in setting up its operations from Lanseria,” explained group CEO Flyafrica, Adrian Hamilton-Manns.
“We welcome Namibia Flyafrica to Lanseria International Airport, and wish them all the very best,” said Gavin Sayce, CEO Lanseria International Airport.
The move to Lanseria has enabled the airline to reduce its fares by up to 80 per cent due to the savings gained.
To avoid any disruption to its passengers, Namibia Flyafrica is offering a unique Sandton connection bus service.
Passengers will be able to board a bus at the Sandton Gautrain Station and go directly to Lanseria.
According to the airline, passengers from Johannesburg’s northern suburbs will reduce their airport commute by 20–25 minutes while passengers from Soweto will see their travel time increase by 10 minutes, but their flight cost reduce by over R500
Namibia Flyafrica will initially operate three weekly flights between Windhoek and Johannesburg on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the airline committing to daily flights before November 2015.
