Metro FM DJ Unathi suspended

AUCKLAND PARK – Metro FM DJ Unathi suspended over Twiiter spat with student.

Metro FM presenter Unathi Msengana has been suspended after a Twitter spat with a fan.

It is alleged that she was suspened from her breakfast show, The First Avenue, after she responded to a Twitter message from a 19-year-old student Palomina Jama.

It is alleged that on 24 August, Jama posted on the trending hashtag #UnathiBeLike, that was created to give examples of how Msengana’s logic apparently failed.

Jama tweeted, “Wife gets beaten by husband. Unathi: Why didn’t you become a lesbian? You married him knowing men can be abusive.”

Msengana then responded to Jama, “Because I don’t need an audience like you. Let’s…..directly. You need validation, I don’t. Your abuse stops now.”

It is further alleged that Msengana then went on to use profane language toward the student.

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago denied that Msengana had been suspended, saying that freelancers do not get suspended.

He added, “She was not scheduled to appear on the show until she had appeared before management.”

Kganyago pointed out a meeting will be held to discuss Msengana’s tweets, but at this stage a date has not been confirmed.

Questions were sent to Msengana’s publicist Jani Roodt and comment is awaited.
