Tyedon is the change he wants to see

FAIRLAND – Tyedon Toweel-Moore follows his mother’s empowering example.

Tyedon Toweel-Moore (12) has shown extraordinary kindness for someone so young. Working closely with his mother, Growing Champions founder, Sam, he went into Eldorado Park with her to compile a short film about the youth she is working so hard to help and empower.

Unbeknownst to him, he was nominated as Lead SA’s Youth Hero for February 2015 by Delano Ayer and only found out when he won. Ayer, a recovering tik addict was taken into the Toweel-Moore home where he was shown love and compassion and given the chance to fight his demons. As a Lead SA Hero, Tyedon was invited to the first Change Makers Conference on 15 August where he was given the opportunity to talk to and network with like-minded people.

When asked about his award, Tyedon explained, “Lead SA is a programme that basically helps people help other people. The programme gets behind people that are out there making changes.” Of the Change Makers conference, Tyedon said he was able to speak to a number of South African role models. Sam added, “The point of the conference is to instill in all of us the desire to become greater.”

Tyedon Toweel-Moore had, within 30 seconds of being at the conference, decided to shoot another film for Lead SA. This one will be scary and illustrate the pain that is present in society and to show the need for change in the world. He is inspired to continue his momentum and continue moving forward and Ayer will be right next to him each step of the way.

Ayer said of Tyedon, “You can’t say Tyedon is just another kid. He has the heart and mind of an adult. He came to Eldos (Eldorado Park) and he wants to know why children don’t live with their fathers and mothers or why they do certain things. He doesn’t only do it to make it better but he asks why. He wants to understand and help people.”

Tyedon concluded, “One person doesn’t have to do a lot, but a lot of people can do a little. And that can make a big difference.”
