Possible Rand Water strike won’t affect services

JOBURG – Joburg Water says possible Rand Water strike due to salary disputes will not affect services.

Joburg Water said residents will not be affected by the possible strike by Rand Water employees regarding salary disputes.

Little Falls and Struben’s Valley Residential Community posted on its Facebook page, “Just in case…it really can’t hurt – Stock up on water in the next 48hrs, as industrial action has been announced at Rand Water. It may affect supply. Rather safe than sorry.”

Rand Water (RW) spokesperson Justice Mohale could not be reached for comment at the time. However, Joburg Water spokesperson David Sibiya said RW has implemented some structures to ensure services will not be affected by the possible strike.

Sibiya said various labour unions and the RW management are currently negotiating on whether the strike will proceed.

Sibiya explained RW employees are unhappy about their monthly income and therefore want to provoke a strike.

“I do not think the strike will take place but the possibility is there,” said Sibiya.
