EMMARENTIA – Massive Emmarentia Dam revamp is all going to plan.

The R23-million project to reinforce the Emmarentia Dam is set to finish on time. The project has caused the closure of Olifants Road which will be closed to motorists until December in accordance with the scheduled closure.

The project is a six-month undertaking that aims to improve the safety of the residents downstream of the dam. The project should reinforce the wall as well as the piping. It should prevent further erosion and also aims to increase the capacity of the dam by means of the removal of certain unnecessary obstructions.

Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers stated that there have been “no surprises” with regard to the project. She also confirmed, “The road should still be closed until December.”

The budget of R23-million remains unchanged at this point.

There is a pedestrian walkway across the bridge but motorists, who wish to use Olifants Road, will need to use alternate routes via Louw Geldenhuys Drive, Tana Road and 5th Avenue.
