Miss Taaibos 2015

Thalia Avvakoumides (20) initially did not have aspirations to participate in beauty pageants until her friends encouraged her to enter Miss Taaibos. Good thing she took their advice, as it led to her winning the Miss Taaibos varsity pageant on 25 July at Trademarx Restaurant and Pub in Pretoria. The contestants were judged based on their confidence, presentation and personality.

The Cresta resident is currently a part time model who does promotions for Point Blank model agency. She is currently in her second year at the University of Pretoria, studying Political Science and aspires to ultimately be a diplomat. Although she does not have much free time, she values spending time with her parents. “I consider myself a family orientated person, my family always comes first to me”, she said.

The youngest out of three siblings, Thalia is passionate about life, takes every moment as it comes and aims to make the best of every moment. Miss Taaibos 2015 recently had the opportunity to meet All Blacks rugby team members Codie Taylor, Lima Sopoago and Ryan Crotty. “A friend of mine invited us to VIP Room in Sandton and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw some players from the All Blacks. They were so friendly and we even ended up partying together. It was so much fun,” she said.

Thalia also said although she enjoyed participating in the pageant and feels honored to have won the Miss Taaibos title, she has no aspirations of continuing a career in beauty pageants. During her reign she plans to be a good role model and focus on her studies.
