GALLERY: Kid’s Club cleans up Alberts Farm

GREYMONT – Bonita Bowen teaches children from her church the value of community service.

Bonita Bowen of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Roosevelt Park runs a group called Kid’s Club in the afternoon, on the last Saturday, after church. The children who usually come are between 6 –12 years old. The club aims to teach the children about the value of community service.

Of the Kid’s Club, Bowen said, “We eat a quick lunch together and then do an activity. On 7 August we arrived at Alberts Farm at about 2pm. After a quick talk about the importance of keeping our parks clean, I gave the children a plastic bag and rubber gloves and set them free.”

It seems the children were enthusiastic and cheerful about cleaning up the park. Bowen said, “Most came back for new bags and gloves having filled their first ones and gotten holes in the gloves.” At 4pm, the time scheduled for parents to fetch their children, they were all still collecting litter and it was a struggle to drag them from their task. Bowen would like to bring them back again soon.
