Caught on video: teacher beats pupils
BERGBRON – A teacher is caught on camera using corporal punishment and assaulting a pupil.
A pupil was assaulted by a teacher at Hoërskool Die Burger, in Bergbron.
The business studies teacher in question is caught on video using a metre-long ruler to smack two female pupils’ hands.
Further on, in the video, he is seen physically slapping, shoving and punching a boy pupil in front of many pupils.
He can be heard using extreme swearing at the pupil in English and Afrikaans.
He was heard shouting (In Afrikaans), “I will slap you.”
Hoërskool Die Burger’s acting principal Barney Lotter said, “I can confirm that the incident happened in about April this year.”
He further commented that the incident was immediately reported to his superiors.
“I reported it to the Gauteng Education Department (GED) under D12 and it is now a case of being sub iudice and I cannot comment any further.”
Lotter was unsure whether the teacher in question will return to school on Monday 17 August.
Comment has been sent to the Gauteng Education Department.
