Burst pipe is finally fixed

BLAIRGOWRIE – The pipe that was spilling water all over Pentlands Road was ultimately fixed.

It took authorities at least five days to fix the burst pipe in Pentlands Road at the Kenworthy Circle in Blairgowrie.

The pipe that was spilling water all over the street was finally fixed on 3 August.

Gail Hall from the Kenworthy Circle Community Association (KCCA) complained the association reported the problem to Joburg Water for at least five days without an amicable solution.

“It has been a week. We discussed this problem on our association’s  WhatsApp group and reported it to the councillor without any proper solution. How can they let water – a scarce resource flow down the road for days,” she said.

She said that they tried calling the entity several times on 2 August and there was no response. “I think the problem is at the top. Seems like those people do not know what they are doing,” said Hall.

She added that workers on the ground knew what they were doing. “They are efficient. It does not even take them an hour to fix the problem. The problem is the management and the call centre is so frustrating,” she added.

She concluded that their complaints were ignored and that the authorities were not appropriately looking after the country’s precious resources. “Those who are in power are not doing their job and people must insist,” she concluded.

Ward 99 councillor Bruce Herbert insisted that the residents only contacted him on 2 August. He reckoned they should have contacted him immediately after realising that Joburg Water was not solving their problem.

“I cannot drive around looking for problems in the community. I also have meetings to attend, it is only when residents alert me that I can immediately attend their problems,” said Herbert.

He concluded that residents must communicate with him.
