EMMARENTIA – The Engen U17 Knockout Challenge sees legendary soccer teams coming to clashes.

The Engen U17 Knockout Challenge took place at Wits Marks Park, Emmarentia, from 31 July until 2 August.

Long-standing soccer clubs such as Senoane Gunners, Bidvest Wits, Rosina Sedibane FC, Mamelodi Sundowns, ETS and SuperSport United FC competed. In a rather challenging weekend with freezing weather on 31 July, the teams played in a round robin format to select who progressed.

This was the 12th year of the tournament.

According to the Engen U17 Knockout Challenge Facebook Page, “The primary focus is on the young players who participate in this tournament. Scouts from Premier League Clubs across South Africa flock to find the next star player.”

The final match was between champions Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns. It was a tough game, with possession of the ball equally divided between the two teams.

At the end of the match no goals were scored as both teams played cautiously; it then when to penalties, which was a nail-biting end.
