Bokkie surpises De La Salle

VICTORY PARK – A special surprise visit of the famous Bokkie Mascot.

There was great excitement at De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School on 24 July.

Bokkie – the official Springbok mascot – arrived to give the pupils a talk about what the Springbok players believe in.

The pupils all came to school in their green and gold Bok shirts and sat down to watch two videos – one about the Rugby World Cup, and the other about Bokkie himself.

Then the South African Rugby Union (SARU) team and Bokkie chatted to the children about getting involved in physical activity and sport and six things that the springbok team believe in – healthy eating, good sportsmanship, teamwork, no bullying, no drugs, and respect.

An interesting statistic SARU gave was that more than 80 per cent of the current Springbok squad didn’t play for the A team at school – which gave pupils encouragement. Play with passion, and one day you too could be playing for the Boks.

One lucky Grade 2 pupil won two tickets to the Springbok vs All Black game on 25 July. The morning closed with everyone proudly singing the National Anthem.

“That was the biggest selfie I have ever taken! Thanks to the boys and girls at De La Salle Holy Cross, I am exhausted” said Bokkie Mascot.
