Update: Homeless man flees from hospital

KENSINGTON B – The Randburg Police are investigating how the homeless man fled from the hospital.

The homeless man escaped from Helen Joseph Hospital in Rossmore on 31 July.

The Randburg SAPS were trying to reunite him with his family.

Meantime, police are still investigating how he had escaped.

Randburg Police spokesperson Constable Stanley Bopape said they were trying to find out from the hospital authorities, how the man escaped from their premises.

“We understand that there is tight security at the hospital, so how will we reunite him with his family when he escaped from the hospital,” Const Bopape questioned.

The homeless man was arrested on 28 July after he had gone to the Randburg Police Station looking for food in the dustbins.

This was after he refused to eat the food they gave him.

The police then sent him to hospital for evaluation to seek out if he was mentally ill or not. Questions were sent to the Helen Joseph Hospital and the Provincial Health Department spokesperson Steve Mabona. They could not comment immediately.
