Joburg e-tolls unrealistic – Mayor

JOBURG – According to the DA, the Mayor of Johannesburg, Parks Tau, has made a bold decision opposing e-tolls in Joburg.

The Mayor of the City of Joburg Parks Tau took a bold step against national and provincial ANC policy by publicly stating his opposition to the e-tolling of Johannesburg roads. In a statement by DA Member of Provincial Legislature (MPL) and Gauteng Provincial Leader John Moodey, the mayor who was speaking at the Nedbank- New Partnership for Africa’s Development Conference made it emphatically clear that the proposed second phase of e-tolls routes won’t be sustainable. This after it was established that the City does not have adequate and viable alternative transport in place.

“It is heartening however that Mayor Tau is willing to break rank with the ANC and choose to put the people of his city and this province first,” said John Moodey. He said the question was whether the Mayor can stick to his words as opposed to Premier of Gauteng David Makhura.
