Update: Cell C Campus Square robbed in broad daylight

MELVILLE – Campus Square Cell C employees were robbed at gunpoint on 22 July.

Campus Square Cell C staff were left distraught after they were hit by an armed robbery at 11.20am on 22 July. According to Cell C operations manager Abraar Bhamjee three armed men entered the store in Melville, while two others were allegedly outside.

“The three suspects held the staff [at] gunpoint and demanded cell phones from the safe,” he said.

Bhamjee also said this is not the first time the store has been robbed.

“We were robbed last year, and again there was an attempted robbery earlier this year,” recounted Bhamjee.

“I am just glad that no one was hurt, everyone is safe,” he said.

Brixton Police Station Commander Colonel Michelle Jones confirmed that an armed robbery did take place and investigations are currently underway.

She also added that the five men fled the scene with the cell phones in an unidentified vehicle.

A case was opened at the Brixton Police Station.
