Next wave of budding scientists poised to take on science expo

BRAAMFONTEIN - Young scientists prepare to showcase their work at annual expo.

The Eskom Expo for Young Scientists aims to inspire pupils not only to explore their potential as scientists but to showcase their own scientific research. The expo affords the opportunity for pupils to discuss their work with teachers and other students.

Wits University will host the event on 1 August. The high school event will be held in the Flower Hall and the primary school event will be held in the Chamber of Mines building.

Minister for Science and Technology Naledi Pandor says of the competition, “Every time I come to the Eskom Expo, my belief in South Africa is strengthened ten times over. At the Eskom Expo we want to begin the process of identifying talent. If we pique pupil’s interest at a young age, it is possible to sustain it for many decades to come.”

Parthy Chetty, executive director, Eskom Expo for Young Scientists adds, “It is opportunities like the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists that allows this scientific talent to flourish and be recognised in South Africa and on the world stage.”

The event will be open to the public from 12pm and there is no entry fee. Refreshments will be made available by Wits vendor, Zesty Lemon.
