“Ten Cent” man has allegedly died

MELVILLE – Reports suggest that the ‘Ten cent’ homeless man has passed way.

Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruin has confirmed that a homeless man was found dead on the pavement on 4th Avenue, at around 7am on 20 July.

“The cause of the death is unknown at this time and an inquest has been opened in order to determine such cause of death,” added WO De Bruin.

WO De Bruin could also not confirm whether it was the local homeless man coined, the ‘Ten Cent’ man who had died.

Reports off the “I Love Melville” Facebook page suggest that the homeless man is in fact the local beggar named the ‘Ten Cent’ man. It is alleged that the man would ask for ten cents from passersby. He was often seen wearing a dark blue jacket and had short dark brown hair.

Questions to the local Ward 87 councillor Amanda Forsythe have been sent.
