450kg man dies

PARKTOWN – Corrie le Grange (60) who weighed 450kg because of Ascites, has died.

Corrie le Grange who weighed 450kg has died at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in the early hours of 14 July.

Edenvale resident Corrie le Grange weighed 450kg because of Ascites, which causes a build-up of fluid around vital organs and which unavoidably leads to massive weight gain.

The 60-year-old Le Grange was hospitalised at the Parktown-based hospital earlier this month after he was allegedly turned away by 10 private facilities.

While Le Grange was in hospital, his health reportedly deteriorated. According to reports, he was at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) when he succumbed to his illness.

“The Gauteng Department of Health sends condolences to the family and friends of Corrie le Grange,” said the Gauteng Health Department spokesperson Steve Mabona.

“Healthcare professionals at the hospital worked hard to give him a chance to life,” he added.

Mabona also commended the hospital’s health professionals, whom he said demonstrated their true dedication to applying all measures for the benefit of the sick.
