GALLERY: Melville residents clean up the streets

MELVILLE – Community members help clean up buildings and side-walks along Main Road (Beyers Naudé Drive) in Melville.

Community members and residents came together to assist in the clean-up initiative of Main Road (Beyers Naudé Drive) in Melville, on 11 July.

The initiative was organised by the Melville Resident’s Association of (MRA) in an attempt to improve the state of Main Road. Residents joined in with members of the association to help clear litter and illegal signage off of buildings alongside the road.

Resident Jackie Gallagher was proud to be able to help with the clean-up initiative. “We are very excited to be part of this clean-up initiative. These events are happening because the minute you leave all the filth be, it just gets worse and worse,” she said.

Resident Warwick Soulsby described the initiative as very necessary. “This clean-up is the sort that should bring the community closer in looking after the state of their neighborhood,” he said.

Co-chairperson of the MRA Derek Milne pointed out that this clean-up initiative serves as a powerful gesture to contribute toward improving the state of the community. “The volunteers who have been assisting us with the clean-up should be applauded,” he remarked.

Milne explained that this clean-up is the third clean-up campaign in the last six months.
