Why does SA always host African Conventions?

JOBURG – Poet David Young challenges the South African Government on ethics and human rights violations

Conventions – Poem written by David Young:

Please remember, don’t forget,

That expensive tête-à-tête!

How is it that, at African Conventions, we’re always the host?

And that it is always at the South African government’s cost.

Air fares, accommodation, food and hooligan juice,

All dolled up in suits, spick and span and spruce

Home Affairs should scrutinize the delegates list,

To ensure there is no murderer or terrorist.

We must not allow entry to anyone we fear,

Who is wanted for multiple charges, like Omar Al Bashir!

What did Omar Al Bashir contribute to the convention?

Absolutely nothing that comes to our attention!

Without producing witnesses or evidence for his trial,

Our Government has supported his complete denial!

Zuma and Ramaphosa, seem to condone what Bashir has done,

They appear to be judge and jury all wrapped up in one.

There may be other suspects strutting around free,

But we must put them away wherever they may be!

Whether courts, prosecutors or perpetrators be black or white,

Criminals must be brought to justice, in a serious light.

If not the I.C.C., who is going to take into account?

Those who have killed so many African souls it’s impossible to count?

To ridicule the I.C.C. for whatever reason,

Can be considered international treason!

If the African Union, Mugabe and Zuma think they can do better,

They should try, and so become a world trendsetter!!

Defending the indefensible is a hard thing to do,

But if you try rogues for war crimes, you must stand in the queue!!!!!

Pray for the families of the victims of the Sudan massacre,

Caused by a very human disaster;

There is no flame without a fire

So the charges against Omar must have been dire.

What was the purpose of his visit here?

The dishonorable Omar Al Bashir!

Was it to cock a snook at a world alliance?

Or was it a misguided act of defiance?

Was it a case of ignorance, and we didn’t know,

That Bashir was a wanted war criminal suspect, on the go?

Whatever the reason, whatever the cause,

It’s a future conundrum, if there ever was!!!!!
