Youth to Business dialogue at UJ

AUCKLAND PARK — Business leaders equip youth with skills to survive in the workplace.

Members of AIESEC* South Africa were given crucial information for the professional industry in the Youth to Business Forum at University of Johannesburg (UJ) on 2 July. (*French acronym for the International Association for Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences.)

The forum brings leaders and experts in different sectors for an exchange of information around job creation, unemployment and developing leaders. Agnes Juhasz, a top job interview coach from Ace Interviews, gave some much-needed advice on nailing your first job interview, especially if you are fresh from university.

“Put your strongest asset in the intro. Give them the topic. If you can’t speak about yourself for at least three minutes, your intro is not good enough. Show some form of learning, what did you take away with you from a past experience,” she advised.

Juhasz’s gave a presentation on preparation and responding to difficult questions. She said that simply looking at the company’s website for background information is not enough to back you up in the interview.

“Company website are not realistic because they are trying to sell themselves. Read articles about your potential employer. Go home and make an inventory of experiences you have.”

AIESEC’s vice president of marketing and communications, Nomkhosi Khumalo said the SA branch and its international counterparts discuss leadership ventures through global exchange within 128 countries.

The summit aims to motivate young people to tap into their potential through cross-cultural exchange and sharing information.
