BRAAMFONTEIN – Former deputy president Kgalema Mothlante gives keynote address at a Wits School of Governance graduation ceremony.

Former deputy president Kgalema Mothlante delivered the keynote address during the graduation ceremony for the Wits School of Governance one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Management: Governance and Public Leadership in the Great Hall on 2 July.

Fourteen parliamentarians, including Mcebisi Skwatsha, Deputy Minister for Rural Development and Land Reform, and various provincial members were among 56 students to receive their diplomas.

Among the guests who attended the ceremony on behalf of Parliament were Lechesa Tsenoli, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, and Thandi Modise, chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, as well as speakers from various provincial legislatures.

Mothlante encouraged graduates to put to good use the knowledge and values they had gained to develop others who will follow.

“Education remains the greatest equaliser of the inequality facing the nation,” said Mothlante. “We live in a knowledge-based world where premium is largely based on skills and training that facilitates growth and development. Human capacity enhancement is at the centre of this knowledge-based economy. Knowledge lies at the centre of it all and it is necessary to continue learning in order to be effective.”

The Postgraduate Diploma in Management: Governance and Public Leadership is aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of the legislative sector, enabling professionals to advance their careers and contribute to good governance and effective development within their organisations and communities across the African continent.
