EMMARENTIA – Dabulamanzi Canoe Polo team recognised for participation at the World Canoe Championships.

Members of the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club based at Emmarentia Dam were among many paddlers who were recognised for their achievement during the Gauteng Canoe Union annual awards ceremony held at Rusty Hook on 28 June.

Chad Andrews, Chris de Bree, Greg Hoets and Peter Geach received their national colours for selection and participation at the World Canoe Polo Championships which were held in France in 2014.

Numerous paddlers were recognised for a variety of achievements including Gauteng colours, national colours and federation colours.

Paddlers received trophies for the specifically identified international and inter-provincial championship events in surf-ski, river racing, canoe polo, sprints and marathons.

One of the team members, Andrews, said it was a wonderful feeling representing the country on the international level. “It is a privilege and an honour representing your country in any discipline, not only in sports,” he said.

General manager of the club, Jason Brown, said, “I am very happy with the achievement, it shows that the club is developing exceptionally well.”
