South African cartoonist, Dov Fedler launched his memoir, Out of Line in the cosy setting of the Factory Shop on 27 June in Linden.

The memoir recounts experiences that have shaped Fedler’s life from family and to being Jewish, born in 1940, when Hitler was getting into his stride.

Residents and fans filled the shop as the author and cartoonist explained his book and life journey. He read out a passage from the book about his father – tinged with tongue-in-cheek anecdotes and got the audience in stitches.

“The chapter wrote itself really, once that voice arose, it just rolled off. This book is much better than I am,” Fedler said.

He started drawing when he was just three years old and said drawing is instant knowledge. “You just let the process happen, it does not require much.”

The book launch and signing was the first to be hosted by the Factory Shop but the great turnout meant that they could be a regular feature.

Dov Fedler has been a cartoonist since the early ’70s, and has covered major political events across the country.
