GALLERY: Fun run brings local community together

GREYMONT – A family day in the sun has a deeper purpose.

A get-together of local residents recently took place at Alberts Farm, Greymont. Organising committee member Ivor Donda said the day was a great success as it allowed local families to spend quality time together as well as interacting with others. Families enjoyed

face-painting for the young, volleyball, soccer and a run or walk through the 5km route that ParkRun established in August last year.

About 80 people of all ages completed the 5km route and prizes were given to runners who came in first as well as runners who were supporting a cause. Donations from the day went to Legacy Foundation, a newly registered non-profit organisation that focuses on education projects for South African youth. Zelda Hibbert, secretary of Legacy Foundation, feels that cooperation at a community level will ultimately lead a brighter future for all concerned. While many participated in the energetic activities such as running and the tug-of-war, others preferred relaxing in the sunshine and taking in the surroundings.

Alberts Farm is a conservancy area in the shadow of Northcliff Hill which adds beauty to surrounding suburbs. The day encouraged adults and children alike to live an active lifestyle and to value parks.
