Months of water damage

WESTDENE — Residents at a retirement village are left to fend for themselves.

Senior residents at the Eeufees Oord Old Age Home in Westdene have been burdened with water damage and geyser leaks for months with no end in sight.

Theunis Botha, who has lived there for six years said he has been dealing with the damage for two months.

“I have to open the geyser outside to get warm water and the water is always running.”

Botha said his neighbour, Norman Kelly also has the same problem and while they have contacted the complex management, they have not been assisted.

“When I call the manager, she says they will send people the next day but they never come. When I try to call her again on the day, she does not answer, no one wants to live like this,” 74 year old Botha continued.

He added that the geyser, which is underneath the sink constantly leaks adding more damage in the house. One of his other neighbours, who did not want to be named said the damage is getting out of hand and nobody seems to take them seriously. “It is as if people just forget about you when you get old,” he concluded.

Efforts to get comment from the Westdene Housing Department were unsuccessful.
