Randburg Kommando to bid farewell

HONEYDEW – The Randburg Kommando is set to put their unit to rest at upcoming ceremony.

The Randburg Kommando Unit is in the process of finalising the resting place for its unit colours which consist of the unit’s official flag.

The unit, which is based in Honeydew, has recently obtained a permanent display area and cabinet at the Erfenissentrum (Heritage Centre) in Pretoria. It intends to arrange for the final parade function to lay down the unit’s ceremonial colours, once all the necessary arrangements have been made.

The Kommando was first established in 1957. It held the status of a light infantry regiment for the South African Army. It was part of the South African Infantry Formation as well as the South African Territorial Protection Reserve Army.

Member of the Randburg Kommando Johnny Morgan explained that the organisation is still searching for regiment members. “We are looking for any of the remaining members of the group to come forward and send through their information. We would be honoured to have their names included in the plaque inscription with the display at the Erfenissentrum,” he said.

Morgan explained that the display cabinet at the Erfenissentrum will present the unit colours, general history of the Kommando, and the names of its members. “Once we have gathered all the relevant information and names to the display, we will then arrange a handing over function to bid farewell to the unit colours,” he said.
