Pupils are rewarded for cleaning

VICTORY PARK – De La Salle Holy Cross College pupils clean a rugby field for World Environment Day.

In support of World Environment Day (5 June), De La Salle Holy Cross College, Victory Park, joined the #KeepOurCityClean movement run by the Johannesburg Junior Council. The school held a competition challenging pupils to take a selfie while doing something environmentally friendly, and post it to social media to compete for prizes. The winning team, Kristin Solomon and Matthew Bernhardt, grabbed the chance to do something meaningful and took first place after cleaning up an entire rugby field.

Their reward: a voucher from Doppio Zero in Greenside. “De La Salle Holy Cross College is in the process of ‘going green’ – and what better way to celebrate World Environment Day than cleaning up the school rugby field to create environmental awareness of recycling programmes,” said college principal Debbie Harris. “I am very proud of the two pupils who used their initiative and lived up to the school motto – ‘Be first, so that you may be of service’.”
