Pedestrian killed on Beyers Naudé Drive

NORTHCLIFF – Homeless man is hit and killed by a taxi in Northcliff.

A pedestrian was hit and killed on the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Milner Road, Northcliff, in the afternoon of 9 June. ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said that the man was hit by a minibus taxi. “When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the man lying close to the intersection,” she explained. “Paramedics assessed him. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for the man. He succumbed to his injuries.” Bodasing added that the cause of the incident is unknown.

Pexco Security and Training guarding division manager, Fareed Hoosen said that he and Pexco Security and Training owner Marion Colley were the first to respond to the accident. He explained that the man was homeless, and Colley provided first-aid support until paramedics arrived. The man received medical treatment for about an hour before he succumbed to his wounds. “Again [it] shows that no matter how wealthy you are, or not, or what you have or don’t, your life can be done in a heartbeat,” Hoosen said.
