De la Spells success

VICTORY PARK – Pupils make the Afrikaans Spellathon Gauteng finals.

De La Salle Holy Cross College Afrikaans Spellathon team: Declan Mahony, Kieran Payne, Christie Firth, Katie Dirks, Priyal Bhugwan and Prina Bhugwan.

De La Salle Holy Cross College pupils know how to spell long Afrikaans words. Four pupils from the school in Victory Park will compete in the AKTV Spellathon Gauteng finals in Germiston at the end of July. Grade 9 pupils Christie Firth and Katie Dirks will compete against 13 other participants on 23 July.

Grade 10 participants Declan Mahony and Kieran Payne will compete against 17 others on 30 July. “The College is very proud of [them],” said Afrikaans teacher Liz van der Westhuizen. “We wish them the best of luck with their preparation.”
