GALLERY: Dance group to take on Barcelona

NORTHCLIFF – Jazz dance group Showtime will represent South Africa at the International Grand Prix dance competition in Barcelona.

A group of young talented jazz dancers called Showtime will jet off to Barcelona on 15 June to represent South Africa at the International Grand Prix dance competition. This is after they qualified at the International Fine Arts competition last year. The group is part of the Daniel Swanepoel Dance Studio in Northcliff. “I am extremely proud of the girls, they have put in a lot of effort and practise for about three to four hours a day,” said owner of the studio Daniel Swanepoel. He explained that the group is very excited but the motto has always been work hard, win and then fun shall follow.

Swanepoel added that dance has allowed many of his students to express themselves through the art and that it is their passion that makes them so good.

Showtime group member Kristen Ewart (16) expressed her excitement for the opportunity to be able to go overseas and compete. “Team work has really helped, we just work so well together and understand each others’ weaknesses and strengths which allow us to motivate and push one another for greatness,” said Ewart .

Ewart shared some tips that she believes will help young dance groups better themselves:

• Know your group members

• Work together

• Uplift one another

• Focus on what matters

• Never lose the passion, “without passion the art of dance is lost.”

The group will compete on 19 and 20 June
