NORTHCLIFF– Gerry and Leanne to take on Mount Kilimanjaro on Mandela Day.

Gerry Elsdon and Leanne Manas will be climbing Kilimanjaro in aid of the Caring4Girls Programme.

A number of South African executives, celebrities and media personalities have joined the Trek4Mandela initiative to raise funds for charity in a ground-breaking summit of Kilimanjaro on 18 July.

Northcliff resident and former M-Net presenter Elsdon and Morning Live presenter Manas, are training at the Northcliff Ridge Ecopark. “As we are training at the Northcliff [Ridge Ecopark], we are appealing to the Northcliff community to come on board in aid of raising funds for the Caring4Girls programme,” said Elsdon.

This is an initiative established by Richard Mabaso of the Imbumba Foundation Trust. The aim for the initiative is to ensure accessibility to much-needed sanitary towels so girls may attend school regularly and not miss out on classes due to a lack of these towels. “This is a necessity and a right, not a luxury – together with hygiene education to ensure the development and growth of young South African women,” added Elsdon.

The public can donate to the fund by SMSing ‘Gerry’ to 42513 at R30 per SMS.

According to Manas, this is an ongoing campaign that goes beyond the Trek4Mandela. “The SMS donations will help in supporting 270 000 impoverished girls with sanitary pads,” said Manas.
