Canoe club leader wins mixed doubles

EMMARENTIA – Jason Brown wins race for Dabulamanzi Canoe Club in Emmarentia.

Dabulamanzi Canoe Club  can boast the success of its manager, Jason Brown. The club, based at Emmarentia Dam, saw its leader win the mixed doubles team (male and female) category in a recent 22km event hosted by Florida Lake Canoe Club, from Meyerton to Three Rivers, on the Klip River. Brown raced with former pupil of Parktown Girls High School and current Dabulamanzi member, Daniela Afonso.

They won in a time of 00:01:44. Jennie Dallas of the Gauteng Canoe Union said, “About 100 paddlers enjoyed the mild autumn early-morning chill and as the day warmed to normal Gauteng Highveld temperatures, many gaining experience on rivers, and earning points toward A grade status to be able to compete in their first A grade river race, the Fish River Marathon in October.”
