El party in Emmarentia

EMMARENTIA – Latin Cultural Festival to bring out your inner Latin dancer.

Prepare for a true South American party, as the fourth annual Latin Cultural Festival will be held at Mark’s Park, Emmarentia, on 13 June. Traditional food and music will be the order of the day, while César Alvarado, one of the most accomplished Latin American entertainers in Africa, will turn any stuck-in-the-mud into a Latin dance pro.

“Come for the experience,” he said. “It is the closest you can get to experiencing South American culture, apart from going there.”

Alvarado will perform the Marinera Norteña on the day, the national dance in Peru, where Alvarado is from. “It is my favourite dance,” he said, explaining that he started performing this particular dance at the age of 11. The dance tells the tale of a man trying to woo a woman. Although the woman also feels affection for the man, she plays hard to get. In the end, he wins her heart.

The festival will start at 11am. Tickets can be bought via quicket.co.za. For more information, contact Alvarado’s dance company, Adrélatin
