R20 million for Emmarentia Dam

EMMARENTIA – MMC for finance in the city of Johannesburg Geoffrey Makhubo allocated R20 million for the rehabilitation of Emmarentia Dam.

Johannesburg’s finance member of the mayoral committee [MMC] Geoffrey Makhubo announced that the city has budgeted R20 million for the rehabilitation of Emmarentia Dam.

Makhubo delivered the city’s budget speech for the 2015/2016 financial year in Sandton on 26 May.

Ward 88 councillor Pat Richards said it has been a long time coming.

“I am so excited, I have been asking for this money for more than 12 years now and eventually we got it and at long last a contractor has been appointed,” the councillor said.

Richards highlighted that they are presently setting up the camp and employing more labourers.

“We will be using local labour for the project and we are looking for 13 males and 2 females,” she said.

She also stated that residents will be notified on the progress of the project.

“A lot will be happening, I don’t have the whole plan yet but I know traffic will be disrupted so when it happens we will notify everyone,” Richards said.

The project will take approximately eight months to complete.
