Police investigate 9th Street cable theft

LINDEN – 9th Street hit by two incidents of cable theft during May.

Residents who live in 9th Street, Linden are fed up with cable thieves who have been stealing cables in the suburb.

Resident Rudolf Raath explained that two different incidents of cable theft took place on the same street this month. “The first incident took place on 15 May and it happened close to 4am in the morning. The second incident took place late in the evening on 25 May.”

Raath explained that a CCTV camera recorded the latest incident and that it has been handed to Linden Police.

He said, “The funny thing is that the same guys walked around the streets on 23 and 24 May and it seemed like they were scouting the area.”

Linden Police spokesperson Captain Alex Vermaak confirmed that Linden Police received the video and explained that they are currently investigating the material.

Capt Vermaak said, “The footage was recorded in the dark and it’s difficult to make out what exactly happened on 25 May but we have launched an investigation into the matter.”

Comment from City Power is still awaited.
