Free public talk about SA’s supersonic car

NEWTOWN – Bloodhound jet car set to be SA's first jet propulsion car that aims to break the landspeed record of 1227km/h.

A free public talk about the Bloodhound Supersonic Car (SSC) is set to take place at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre on 28 May.

The team behind this creation will answer questions from the public and talk about plans for the SSC which was also dubbed as the car that is faster than a bullet – it plans to break a land-speed record of going faster than a 1600km/h.

SSC media contact Schalk Mouton said, “The talk will be presented by Gavin Redgment and Peter Woolman. Redgment is an engineer at MTN, and Woodman is a Bloodhound SSC education ambassador and he started his engineering career with Rolls Royce Aero Engines. He was also a senior development engineer on the legendary Concorde aircraft.”

He explained that the SSC aims to beat the current world record of 1227km/h that was set by Andy Green who drove the Thrust SSC back in 1997. He will also be driving the Bloodhound SSC later in 2016 at the Hakskeen Pan in the Northern Cape that has one of the flattest surfaces in Africa and is perfect for the land-speed record attempt of 1600km/h.

“The public is welcome to attend the talk which is set to start at 6pm at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown. They have to RSVP beforehand by calling Neo at 011 639 8448 or by sending an email to speaktoascientist@sci-bono.co.za,” concluded Mouton.
