Roosevelt Park substation causes blackout for the third time

ROOSEVELT PARK – Yet again areas surrounding the Roosevelt Park substation have been without power.

Suspected cable fault is suggested to be the reason for numerous areas around Roosevelt Park substation on 20 May.

Many residents woke up to complete cold and darkness. The temperamental Roosevelt Park substation has for the third time caused massive power outages since the fire in April this year.

The other incidents when power has been interrupted were on 30 April and 5 May.

City Power spokesperson Sydney Mphahlele said, “Our technicians are on site and are still investigating the issue. We suspect that the outage has been caused by a cable fault.”

The areas that have been affected are:

Blackheath, Northcliff, Fairland, Berario, Montgomery Park, Risidale, Emmarentia, Linden and Victory Park.

Mphahlele added that they are estimating that power will be restored within three hours.
