Review: Mpume Nzimande

Genre: Action, Adventure, Thriller

Running Time: 120 minutes

Cast:Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult

Director: George Miller

Charlize Theron, shows how tough she is and that she is not just a pretty face.

The South African-born Oscar winner, and the world-renowned actress, gives her best performance yet again.

Mad Max: Fury Road, opened in cinemas on 15 May.

The film is set against postapocalyptic background in 2060, which seeks to raise a question of civilisation and humanity.

It opens when the earth has succumbed to drought and desolation, and people are starving and fighting for their survival, in the desert.

Theron potrays Furiosa Imperator, who was abducted as child by the brutal, heartless Immortan Joe.

She sets out to rescue five wives of Immortan Joe, who are used as his sex slaves.

And hell breaks loose.

Furiosa, who fights with her artificial arm, is joined by the rogue survivor Mad Max (Tom Hardy).

At first, Max does not trust her, but is forced to work with Furiosa and the wives in order to escape from the brutality of Joe and his gangs.

Fury Road shot in the Namibian Desert, is filled with explosions and strange looking welded cars, which resemble cocopines.

Their plan to escape becomes a road trip from hell, when Joe runs after them.

Furiosa’s survival is based on hope that there is a green place, somewhere out there where she can live peacefully.

Her attempts together with Mad Max and the wives are met with obstacles and detours.

The film has a high level of technicality which is also promoted by rock ‘n roll, with metal sounds of music.

The question is who killed the world?

Verdict

Overall, this is an incredible film with high levels of technicality and action.

I was impressed by the women actors.

Theron amazed me with her action-packed fighting scenes.

Hardy did not disappoint either. This guy knows his stuff and he is easy on the eye.

Although the five wives played their part, they still looked too manicured for their roles in the film.

Zoë Kravitz and other models-turned-actresses, were so-so.

Also, I did not like the high level of noise, which was distracting sometimes.

Rating: 9/10
